Taylor Made RED For You

Review By Ankita Singh Deo

RED - Taylor Swift (Music Review)
Artist
: Taylor Swift

Released - October 22, 2012.

Taylor Swift is back with her fourth music album and how! The album is huge, has sixteen songs with amazing variety. The album holds an ocean of mixed emotions and sounds. The ease with which she narrates all the different facets of love with drastic detailing deserves admiration. A 16 song album takes quite some time to absorb, but be prepared to experience a roller-coaster ride of emotions and some great music.

So just put on your seatbelts and enjoy the ride. Here goes!

State of Grace - With this song we get to see a completely different side of Swift, which is surely a pleasant surprise. The way she sings out ‘I never saw you coming and I’ll never be the same’ is dreamy! Love can be a state of grace if you just follow your heart and do the right things. This song is a daring diversion from the typical Taylor swift feel and God! She’s good at it!

Red - The shades of life remain unknown till you fall in love. The song explores the colors of love. Red signifies a myriad of emotions. Red is the joy of falling in love, the passion of being together, the pain of loneliness and the regrets and consequences of falling apart, all coming together. This song summarizes the complete album.

Treacherous - A delicate and soft song with a hypnotizing voice. Through this song Swift says that love hurts. But the pain is sweet and you never seem to get enough of it. You know what you’re getting into but you can’t help it. The song makes you fall in love with it the first time you listen to it.

I knew you were Trouble - I am a sucker for songs like this, so bear with me if I sound like a kid talking about his new toy!
J ‘I knew you were trouble when you walked in, so shame on me now.’ A song with great attitude, frank lyrics, awesome music, amazing vibe and what not. The track actually takes off when it reaches the chorus. And by the time it gets over, I'm playing it again! :-P

All too well - It is an intrepid, honest and confessional ballad, with abundant detailing. This is the way any one would recollect every little moment of her love, which makes the song easily relatable. The minute specificity of the lyrics makes it a pleasant listen.

22 - ‘Happy, free, confused and lonely in the best way.’ The song aptly describes how it feels at 22, so much going on inside the heart and still having fun. This is an upbeat and fun song that you can crazily dance to. The perfect song for a girls’ party.

I Almost Do - This is a touching song which talks about those awkward feelings and the dilemma in the heart after breaking up, when deep inside there is a part of you that still cares and the immense effort it takes to hold oneself back from going back to the one who isn't yours any more. The deep pain in the lyrics comes out magically.

We Are Never Getting Back Together - Portraying breaking up as such a cool thing is one thing that only Miss. Swift could have done. The song says- ‘I thought our love would be epic but if you don’t care, why should I. I'm stronger than you think and strong enough to end this. And this time it’s over for good.’ In this song TS dazzles like never before.

Stay, Stay, Stay - It is a girly song with a happy melody and cute lyrics. ‘I just like hanging out with you’ says about the first feeling when you start liking someone and then reaching a point when you realize that you can’t risk losing that person, said by-‘I’d like to hang out with you all my life.’ Deep emotions brought out so easily.

The Last Time - Swift teams up with Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol to create this epic duet. The song is about the questions of a broken heart which wonders how its love could end so easily. This is undoubtedly the most mature track in the album both lyrically and sonically.

Holy Ground - This song celebrates the spirit of love. It tells you the feeling of love at first sight and how every moment spent together and every place you've been together becomes so special. A catchy and happy song.

Sad, Beautiful, Tragic - The song is sad in a beautiful way. It is a sensitive take on the failed glory of lost love. When you’re in love it feels like magic and when it’s over its nothing less than a tragedy. Don’t be surprised if you end up in tears listening to this one, particularly if you've ever had a ‘beautiful magic love affair’.

The Lucky One - Here, TS flawlessly talks of everything that comes with being famous, how life changes and people drift apart. A sensitive topic with a groovy tune which appeals in a strange way.

Everything Has Changed - This is the second duet in the album featuring Ed Sheeran, the two voices impeccably complementing each other. ‘And all I feel in my stomach is butterflies, the beautiful kind’. It is about falling in love the second time, when you’re curious yet careful. ‘I just want to know you better’.

Starlight - The way this song hits off it almost feels like liquid light pouring in from everywhere. But somehow it reminds me of Kylie Minogue’s songs in so many ways. But does it even matter? The song is great. It makes me want to say- Oh my! What a marvellous tune.

Begin Again - This is a song I could go on and on about. It talks about a fresh start and new beginnings. The song is about recollections of a past relationship and all the things he hated about you, and how he wanted to change you, told in outstanding lyrics like ‘All love ever does is break and burn and end.’ You’re still not out of it when suddenly things begin to change. Silently adoring someone. The someone who doesn't find flaws, doesn't want to change you, makes you realize you are in love again. And this time around, it is here to stay. The song gives a hope for a better tomorrow. The perfect song to end the album.

Red, is till date, unquestionably the most experimental and dynamic record by Taylor Swift and she carries it off with élan and undeniable charm. The album rightfully justifies the fact why she is faithfully worshipped among her fans. This album sure is ‘burning RED.’!

P.S:- No ratings… I just love it!
