Priyanka Chopra’s international singing venture has been doing the rounds of the news for more than a year now. Now that her first international single is finally out for over a month, it surely has got her international fan-following.
Coming to the song,
Sources say, PC’s first single created ripples around the world, making it to the top 100 of US charts within a week. It even made its debut on the Billboard, making her the first Indian singer to be featured on the website.
My take on the song:
Being an Indian and being in a Bollywood-crazy country, all the speculations and excitement around this song had built up huge expectations of a powerful piece of work from the multi-talented and ambitious lady.
The song starts off on a somewhat awkward computerized beat. Step in PC. And the first thing you are bound to notice is that famous accent, which somehow bothers me at too many points through the song and keep me from being able to enjoy it. And that voice sounds a little too perfect (read: auto-tuned :P). The section by will.i.am is just okay. The lyrics are clearly amateurish and too simple, yet meaningful in away and appropriate for conveying the message she wishes to. The music and the rhythm are peppy and listenable but nothing very special.
The good part.
The first Indian to step out into the International pop scenario, with a fairly good first attempt, makes us all proud, doesn't it? Now we know for sure that this girl can sing. (I personally feel her husky and sensuous voice is to die for!)
According to news, she’s been busy shooting the official video for the song across different places all over India for a month now; which I'm sure all of us are eagerly waiting for.
And as PC puts it, “Good, bad, ugly. It’ll be mine to remember.”…
And us to watch out for! J
How Would You Rate Priyanka's IN MY CITY ?
